Nine Iranians charged in massive cyber theft campaign targeting universities, Justice says


WASHINGTON — Nine Iranians have been charged as part of massive state-sponsored online robbery campaign that focused hundreds of colleges, organizations and govt organizations in the U.S. and overseas, govt regulators declared Saturday.

The thinks, all associates of an Iranian-based company known as the Mabna Institution, supposedly breached the pcs of the U.S. Department Labor, the Federal Energy Regulating Commission, the United Countries and the states of Hawaii and In, govt regulators said.

Deputy Lawyer General Rod Rosenstein said Saturday that the thinks supposedly took more than 31 terabytes of data from 140 America colleges, 30 U.S. organizations and five govt departments, while focusing on 176 colleges overseas.

"For many of these uses, the offenders served at the behest of the Iranian govt and, specifically, the Iranian Innovative Secure Corps," Rosenstein said.

Manhattan U.S. Lawyer Geoffrey Berman recognized the synchronized online attacks as "one of the largest state-sponsored coughing strategies ever charged."

"The online hackers focused enhancements and ip from our country's greatest minds," Berman said. "These offenders are now fugitives from America rights, no longer free to travel outside Iran without risk of arrest."
